Technical College Silkeborg has made WorldSkills - the Olympic Games of skills – part of its everyday life. Most recently, a panel beater student won the silver medal in auto body repair at WorldSkills London 2011.

The students at Technical College Silkeborg are among the best in the world. Several professions at the college aim at participating in WorldSkills which takes place every two years. In 2011, at WorldSkills London, Technical College Silkeborg was represented by a car painter, a chef and a metal beater. Within all three professions, the college not only has world-class specialists in their respective fields, but they also adjudicate at the WorldSkills events.

For some of the college’s professions, car painting for instance, there is a long tradition participating in WorldSkills which is considered be an absolute highpoint in the college's life. World Skills is a unique event with championships in 50 professions and participants from 55 countries.

- In every class, there are always students who are keen to compete within their professions and who will try to be among the very best on a national or an international scale. In all education, it is vital to make sure that the gifted students are challenged, points out Jens Søndergaard, who is one of our instructors and a passionate organizer of World Skills at the Technical College since 2004.

- At Technical College Silkeborg, we have many students who have chosen a very specialised vocational education and, with us, will experience that their theoretical abilities as well as their craftsmanship are challenged. Therefore, skills competitions like WorldSkills are extremely important, Jens Søndergaard concludes - and the auto body repair silver medalist of WorldSkills London 2011, Nikolaj Vinther, fully agrees.
